Admissions Considerations
Orion Academy serves students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and executive functioning deficits in high school. Eligible students have an average to above-average verbal I.Q. as measured by a standardized assessment, yet they often struggle in a traditional school setting due to learning differences. Orion accepts students who can benefit from its unique wrap-around approach and small-class environment.
In general we consider the following when a student is applying to Orion:
- Primary diagnosis of a neurocognitive disorder by a respected clinician
- Would benefit from social skills and pragmatic language development
- Above-average to average verbal I.Q. as measured by a standardized assessment
- Decoding and comprehensive reading level at or above the 8th grade level
- Able to self-regulate and work independently
- Able to use technological advances and keyboard
- Family demonstrates motivation to become a part of the Orion community
