The 2nd Annual Joey Travolta ASD Summer Film Camp at St. Mary’s College
Who: 50 kids/teens ages 8-18 with or without an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
What: All Campers will have the opportunity to learn about script writing, acting, directing and producing a collaborative short film which will be professionally edited and screened at St. Mary’s College on Sunday, September 14, 2008 5:30-9:30 pm
When: July 7-18, 2008 (Two weeks, Monday – Friday from 10 am - 3 pm)

Travel Camp
Frontier Travel Camp, Inc. was established in 1997 as a summer camp
alternative for individuals with special needs. We believe that group
travel is an ideal way to experience independence, improve social
skills, and increase self-esteem in a secure and exciting environment.
Quest Camp
Quest has combined the ability to observe the child in a
natural play setting with the behavioral and therapeutic techniques to
facilitatepositive change. By combining the joy of camp activities and
the therapeutic interventions, Quest makes dramatic changes that last.

Area Summer Camp Guide
Offers an annotated guide first prepared by a Berkeley parent last
year. Many are for kids younger than ours, but there are some
for older teens.
Chabot
Space and Science Center
Chabot Space
& Science Center Summer Camp explores space and earth science,
astronomy, technology, robotics, and video production at the Science
Center in the Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland. Not reviewed.
Age 1st-12th grade, Dates one wk sessions, dates vary by age 6/17-8/16,
Time 9-12 (10-3 for video production camp) no extended care, Cost

Deer Hill Ranch
Our
programs are thoughtfully designed and carefully sequenced to foster
personal growth and increased self-awareness as well as improved
communication and interaction skills. This can lead to an improvement
in individual self-esteem as well as enhanced group unity and
functioning. Our programs for older children and teens (ages
10-18) focus on increasing kids' sense of accountability for the
choices they make in both their words and actions towards others.
iD Tech Camp
Nationwide
Summer Technology & Computer Camps at UC Berkeley, St.
Mary's of Moraga and other college campuses around the country. Web
design and graphic arts, multimedia & game creation,
Programming
and robotics (10+) digital video and movie production options (10+).
Ulitmate frisbee, swimming, chess tournaments, basketball, kick ball,
soccer, scavenger hunts and board games also included for balance. Girl
specific week available.
Museum of Children's Art
MOCHA Summer Art
Camp: Week long sessions with different themes each week such as
cartooning, sculpture, sci-fi, animals, architecture,
sculpture,
natural materials, musical instruments and edible art at the Museum of
Children's Art in downtown Oakland. Art walks and visits to other
museum or programs each week. Snacks included. Also offer half day
studio intensives for teens with small classes and individual
mentoring.
Roleplay
Workshop
Uses an interactive storytelling game called Abantey to teach
math, science, ecology, anthropology, personal responsibility and group
problem solving skills in Piedmont area of Oakland. Players work their
way through complicated mysteries to create their own story. Low impact
team sports during lunch break. Camping trips for experienced
campers.
Oakland Zoo
Zoo Camp: Behind
the scenes animal experience, nature science, story telling and crafts
at Oakland Zoo. Teens assist in animal care, wildlife theater and guide
public. Reviews (2-00, 1-02) Youth program (teen program not reviewed).
Organization and facility good, staff well trained. One reviewer called
staff "not overly enthusiastic" and wanted more hands on with animals,
other reviewer was totally positive about program. Good for kid without
stamina (zoo can get hot and program includes lots of walking).
